O game continua com a narrativa de onde War of Cybertron parou e mostra os últimos esforços dos Autobots na tentativa de escapar da derrota contra os Decepticons, antes do desastre que exterminará o seu planeta.
Seguindo o estilo de seu antecessor, o game permite que o jogador passe pelos momentos finais da guerra no controle dos Autobots e Decepticons em cenários terrestres e aéreos, tendo por diferença neste título que poderemos jogar também com os Dinobots, liderados pelo Grimlock contando com uma jogabilidade única.
Também como novidade teremos um sistema de upgrade de armamentos, permitindo que tornem poderosos, caso consiga dinheiro o suficiente para pagar por eles e as melhorias funcionam para todos os personagens.
O grande destaque do título é para a possibilidade de poder criar o seu próprio transformer, desde aparência a habilidades, para jogar no modo multiplayer online.
